About the role
Unsworth Secondary School is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Lead to join our team from September. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives, supporting the wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development of a whole year group.
Working closely alongside the Head of Year, you will be the first point of contact for pastoral matters within your year group — building trusted relationships with students, families, and external agencies to ensure every young person receives the support they need to thrive.
This role is offered on a temporary basis with a view to becoming permanent, making it an ideal stepping stone for someone looking to develop their pastoral career in a secondary school setting.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day pastoral support and guidance to students across your allocated year group
- Work closely with the Head of Year to monitor student wellbeing, attendance, and behaviour
- Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers regarding pastoral concerns
- Liaise with external agencies including social services, CAMHS, and other support services
- Contribute to the wider pastoral team, supporting school-wide initiatives and covering duties as required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with school policy and safeguarding requirements
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting — previous TA experience is a strong advantage
- A confident communicator with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families
- Experience managing behaviour and supporting students with additional needs
- Familiarity with or willingness to engage with external agencies and professional networks
- A calm, empathetic approach and genuine commitment to student wellbeing
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Applications are welcomed from candidates at all levels of experience in education. Please submit your CV.
