Where have you worked prior to Connex?

I’ve been at Connex for 14 years now! Prior to this, I worked in construction recruitment and before that I also sold gas and electricity straight after university. Before and during University I was a lifeguard in America, club promoter in Magaluf, and also worked in a vets surgery.

You’ve stuck with Connex for a number of years, along with many others in the company. Why is this?

Although we are in a saturated market, I believe Connex’s approach is very different to the norm. We have a great shared ethos across the company which is echoed across all members of staff. Connex believes in the brand and that we can offer a great service to schools. We have very loyal employees that I have had the pleasure of working with for over 10 years, which is very rare in recruitment and I believe this speaks volumes about Connex and how much we all believe in our brand.

What does Connex stand for?

We are unique in many ways, from our quirky marketing to our shared ethos. We appreciate that “supply” is not always a popular avenue for schools and candidates to go to, which is why we’ve based our service around listening and asking what our schools and candidates want.

We pride ourselves on our honest and reliable service and always aim to place candidates where and when they request work. We want to be different, so our ideas and approaches are always from feedback we get from candidates and schools.

What sort of support can your team provide for candidates?

We have always aimed to offer both a friendly and supportive service to candidates as we appreciate supply can be very lonely. We take our time to listen to what our candidates want and need. We have a lot of experience in the market but we are always keen to hear feedback on what we can do better to support our candidates. Our candidates are extremely important to us and awe aim to make each and every one feel valued and appreciated.

Each candidate has a dedicated and experienced consultant as well as a friendly face in our resourcers when they come in to register with us.

Over the years, we have secured countless working relationships with enough schools to give our candidates a varied choice of options to suit them.

You’ve just opened a new office in North Wales. Why?

We are now one of the main suppliers of teaching staff across Cheshire West & Chester. We found that some of our candidates actually lived in North Wales and we wanted to do something about their commute. The next organic move had to be North Wales so we could offer these candidates more local work and we also strongly believe that we can offer schools something fresh and different for their supply needs. This is an area I have looked at previously and now we have the opportunity to mirror the success of Cheshire into this new and exciting venture.

What does an ideal teacher look like to you?

An ideal teacher, or any other member of teaching staff, is someone who shares our passion for education, and who is keen to make a difference in a school, whether it is for a day’s cover or a more long term assignment.

If you were face to face with someone who is considering working on supply now, what would you say to then?

I’d say that we are here to support you from the second you make contact with Connex as we know that supply can be a lonely and challenging place at times.

We have day to day supply across the area but also more long term roles if this is a route you prefer. We have more work than ever before and we need extra special candidates to service this demand from our schools. We are always at the end of the phone and will work with you to ensure you get the role you really want.
