Job Opportunity: PECS & Makaton One-to-One Home Tutor
Location: Pupils’ homes (West Midlands)
Hours: Flexible, part-time or full-time (based on referrals)
Pay: Competitive hourly rate (depending on experience)
About the Role:
We are seeking a patient, skilled One-to-One Tutor to deliver home-based tuition for children and young people with Autism, complex communication needs, and learning difficulties. All referrals come directly through the local authority, so you’ll be part of a trusted network providing essential educational support in pupils’ own homes.
You’ll use PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to help each pupil communicate, engage, and progress in a safe, comfortable environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver engaging one-to-one sessions in pupils’ homes.

Use PECS and Makaton confidently to support communication goals.

Plan and adapt creative, play-based activities to each child’s needs.

Liaise regularly with parents/carers and the local authority.

Keep clear, detailed progress records and session notes.

Work independently while following safeguarding and health & safety policies.
What We’re Looking For:
✅ Proven experience using PECS and Makaton with children with Autism or severe communication needs.
✅ Experience in a home tuition, outreach, or alternative provision setting (desirable).
✅ Patient, compassionate, and adaptable.
✅ Confident working independently in family homes.
✅ Clear enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain).
✅ Driving licence and access to a car (preferred).
