Business Case for a Relational Navigator in Schools

About the Role:

Connex Education are seeking an exceptional SEN Relational Navgiator to join our dedicated team at our thriving secondary school in Middlesbrough This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to make a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Your duties will include:

  1. Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive relationships with students at risk of exclusion, understanding their individual needs and challenges.
  2. Advocacy: Advocate for students’ needs within the school and liaise with external agencies to ensure comprehensive support.
  3. Modelling and Training: Model relational practices and inform frontline staff about effective strategies to support students, advocating for the child within the education system.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the effectiveness of relational practices and evaluate their impact on student outcomes.

Assignment Details:

The introduction of a Relational Navigator in schools aims to address the needs of young people at risk of exclusion by fostering strong relationships and providing targeted support. This role will serve as a Pre-PROCLAIM pathway to developing an attachment-aware and trauma-informed school environment. By linking the roles of a Local Authority (LA) Virtual School, particularly Middlesbrough’s PROCLAIM project, and the CURV initiative, the Relational Navigator will play a crucial role in enhancing student well-being and academic success.

As a successful Relational Navigator with Connex Education Partnership, you will possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching pupils with SEND
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to undertake training
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and the Code of Practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within SEND
  • Experience working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions, ADHD, and other complex needs
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and resources
  • Experience of managing budgets and staff
