Teaching Assistant – ASC Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive secondary school team in Wythenshawe. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with extensive experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum (ASC) to make a meaningful difference in young people’s educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist one-to-one and small group support for students with ASC aged 11-16
- Implement individualised learning strategies and behaviour support plans
- Support students with social communication, sensory needs, and transitions
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure inclusive education
- Assist with curriculum delivery and adapt resources to meet diverse learning needs
- Monitor and record student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments
- Support students during unstructured times including break and lunch periods
- Promote independence and self-advocacy skills
Essential Requirements
- High level of experience working with young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions
- Demonstrated understanding of ASC characteristics and effective support strategies
- Experience working in secondary education settings (preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet individual student needs
- Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs or Autism support
- Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Training in positive behaviour support or therapeutic approaches
- Experience with PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems
- Knowledge of current SEN legislation and best practices
