Job Title: Psychology Graduate – SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Mainstream Primary School, Walthamstow
Salary: Starting daily rate of £95.83 per day (Pay review at 12 weeks)
Contract: Long term Role | Monday – Friday (Term time only)
Start Date: Immediate (subject to DBS and clearance)
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for Psychology graduates to gain hands-on classroom experience while supporting children with special educational needs (SEND). This role involves working closely with children in KS1 and across the primary setting who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs. You will provide tailored support to help pupils access the curriculum, regulate their emotions, develop communication skills, and engage in learning and social activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Help children with social, emotional or sensory needs engage in learning
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
- Apply patience, positivity and de-escalation techniques when dealing with challenging behaviour
- Promote inclusion and wellbeing across the classroom
Person Specification
- A passion for SEND and child development
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviour and applying de-escalation techniques
- Willingness and ability to support children with toileting and feeding needs
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and parents
- Experience with children/young people (volunteering, tutoring, mentoring, youth work) is desirable
- A current DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
