**About the Role**
A Reception Teaching Assistant works alongside the class teacher to support children aged 4–5 as they begin their school journey. The role is all about helping young children learn, play, and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Day to day, a TA might sit with small groups or individual children to help them with early reading, writing, or number skills, join in with play-based activities, and encourage children to develop their confidence and social skills. They also help with the practical side of classroom life, like setting up activities, keeping things organised, and making sure routines run smoothly. A big part of the role is offering care and reassurance, especially as this is often the children’s first experience of school, and supporting their personal and emotional development. Reception TAs also keep an eye on children’s progress and feed back to the teacher, as well as giving extra support to those with additional needs. It’s a varied, hands-on job that requires patience, creativity, and a genuine love of working with young children.
