Job Role: SEN Academic Tutor

Salary: £20 – £25

Role Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced SEN Academic Tutor to provide tailored academic support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The successful candidate will work closely with learners, families, and educational professionals to create inclusive learning environments that foster academic progress, confidence, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 tutoring sessions adapted to individual learning styles and SEN profiles.
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans in collaboration with SENCOs, teachers, and parents and EHCP plans.
  • Use multi-sensory and differentiated teaching strategies to support students with a range of needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and weekly reports.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through supportive and structured interactions.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding and confidentiality standards.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Teaching or tutoring experience with SEN students (QTS or relevant qualification preferred).
  • Strong understanding of SEN frameworks and inclusive education practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable Attributes

  • Training in specific interventions (e.g., TEACCH, Makaton, PECS, Read Write Inc.).
  • Experience working in mainstream or specialist educational settings.
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and SEN legislation.
