About the Role
Connex Education is recruiting Mental Health Support Workers to work in partnership with schools across Stoke-on-Trent. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in education, care, or support work who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
The Schools
Partner schools support pupils with a range of SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and create nurturing, structured environments where all children are encouraged to thrive. Staff work collaboratively to provide tailored, therapeutic approaches to learning, helping pupils build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.
These schools are seeking empathetic, resilient, and committed individuals ready to provide consistent and compassionate support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour or require emotional regulation strategies.
What You’ll Need
✅ Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting
✅ Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and using de-escalation strategies effectively
✅ Patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient with a calm and consistent approach
✅ Comfortable supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, providing both academic and emotional support
✅ Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education
✅ Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing needs throughout the day
✅ DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Connex Education
✅ Proof of right to work in the UK (required to apply)
