Role: PMLD Tutor
Location: Face-to-Face, in Home or School, Bradford
Hours: Monday to Friday, Flexible Hours
Contract: Part-Time/Full-Time Options Available
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver personalised 1:1 tutoring and intervention sessions for students with PMLD needs, supporting engagement, communication, and individual progress.
- Plan, deliver, and assess highly individualised intervention programmes focused on communication, sensory development, functional skills, independence, and life skills.
- Develop and adapt bespoke learning activities using multi-sensory, creative, and therapeutic approaches tailored to each learner’s needs and EHCP outcomes.
- Use intervention strategies that support cognition, communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and personal development.
- Incorporate music, sensory play, visual supports, and practical activities to encourage participation and meaningful learning experiences.
- Use alternative communication approaches including Makaton, PECS, visual timetables, and assistive technology to support pupil engagement and interaction.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, adapting intervention plans and tutoring strategies to meet evolving needs and targets.
- Promote independence, confidence, self-esteem, and positive communication through targeted interventions and consistent support.
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages engagement and celebrates progress at every level.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, and external professionals to ensure consistency and continuity of support.
- Contribute to pupil reviews, progress meetings, and EHCP-focused discussions where appropriate.
- Maintain safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional standards at all times.
Requirements
- Experience delivering tutoring, interventions, or support for children and young people with SEMH, SEN, and/or PMLD needs.
- Strong understanding of personalised learning and differentiated intervention approaches.
- Confidence using multi-sensory and communication-focused strategies to engage learners with complex needs.
- Knowledge or experience of alternative communication systems such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, or assistive technology.
- Ability to build positive relationships and motivate learners with varying levels of communication and engagement.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
- Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a nurturing approach to intervention support.
- Relevant qualifications in education, SEND, tutoring, support work, or related fields.
