Connex Education are recruiting SEMH Learning Support Assistants to work across a range of schools in Chippenham and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for flexible day-to-day supply, short-term work or a longer-term placement, we can offer opportunities to suit your availability and experience.
This is a great opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants, LSAs, support workers and candidates with relevant transferable experience who want to make a positive difference to pupils’ lives.
The Role
As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils who may require additional emotional, behavioural and educational support. Placements can vary from mainstream schools with SEMH provision through to specialist settings.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and manage challenging situations
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting children to access their learning and participate in school life
- Encouraging positive behaviour and developing pupils’ confidence and independence
- Helping to create a calm, structured and supportive environment
- Implementing individual support and behaviour strategies
- Supporting pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other support staff
- Promoting positive social skills and emotional development
Flexible Supply Work

- Day-to-day supply – work around your availability
- Short-term placements – opportunities lasting from a few days to several weeks
- Long-term placements – regular work within one school

We will take the time to understand your experience, availability and preferred type of setting before matching you with suitable schools.
About You
We are looking for individuals who are patient, resilient, consistent and nurturing, with a genuine interest in supporting children and young people.
Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, ADHD, trauma, anxiety or other additional needs is desirable. However, relevant experience from education, care, youth work, residential settings or similar environments will also be considered.
