SEMH Support Worker – Education

About the Role
Connex Education Partnership is seeking resilient, empathetic and motivated SEMH Support Workers to work across schools, specialist education settings and alternative provisions throughout Bristol.
This role is ideal for someone who can build strong, trusting relationships with children and young people who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges or barriers to learning.
You may be an experienced Support Worker, Youth Worker, Youth Justice Worker, Key Worker, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Mentor, or Mental Health Care Worker looking to bring your skills into education.
Your Responsibilities
As an SEMH Support Worker, you may be responsible for:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
- Helping pupils manage challenging behaviour and difficult situations
- Encouraging engagement with learning and school routines
- Promoting independence, confidence and resilience
- Supporting positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and specialist staff
- Following individual support and behaviour plans
- Creating a calm, safe and supportive learning environment
We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- Experience working with vulnerable young people
- A background in education, youth work, care, mentoring, coaching or support work
- Experience supporting challenging behaviour or emotional regulation
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The resilience and empathy needed to support pupils who may find education challenging
Experience within an educational setting is desirable, but relevant experience outside of education is also highly valued.
