About the Role
Connex Education is working on behalf of a large and inclusive mainstream primary school in Waltham Forest to recruit a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the classroom. This full-time role is to begin in September 2025 and is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs in a mainstream setting.
The school promotes a nurturing and aspirational learning environment where all pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential. As an LSA, you will play a key role in providing 1:1 and small group support to children with ASD, helping them to access the curriculum, regulate emotions, and develop key social and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and in-class support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Help pupils access learning tasks by using visual supports, routines, and tailored strategies
- Encourage social interaction and support emotional regulation
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement EHCP targets
- Monitor progress and contribute to daily observations and reports
- Promote inclusion and help pupils engage confidently in all aspects of school life
Assignment Details
- Full-time role, Monday to Friday
- Working hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Long-term role with the potential to continue for the full academic year
Person Specification
- Experience supporting pupils with ASD in a school or similar setting (essential)
- Understanding of inclusive classroom practices and communication strategies
- A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and learning support
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- A current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Connex
