SEND Learning Support Assistant – Year 4 or 5
Location: Walthamstow, London, E17
Salary: £95.83 per day (Pay review at 12 weeks)
Start Date: October Half Term (Subject to DBS and clearance)
Assignment Details
- Full-time role, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
- Working hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Long-term role for the full academic year
- Supporting a KS2 class, working with pupils with ASD and complex needs
- Combination of 1:1 and small group support within a mainstream classroom

About the Role
Connex Education is working on behalf of a large and inclusive mainstream primary school in Waltham Forest to recruit a SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join the team after the October half term.
This full-time role is based in a KS2 class, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other complex learning and behavioural needs. You will provide targeted support to help children access learning, develop communication and social skills, and regulate emotions in a positive and structured environment. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver individualised support, implement EHCP targets, and contribute to creating an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide in-class support for pupils with ASD and complex needs within the Year 4 classroom
- Support access to learning through visuals, structured routines, and tailored strategies
- Encourage communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour effectively and safely
- Collaborate with teachers and the SENCO to deliver and review EHCP and individual targets
- Record observations and monitor progress to support ongoing assessment and planning
Person Specification
- Experience supporting children with SEND (ASD and complex needs) in a school, care, or similar setting
- Confident in using strategies for managing challenging behaviour and promoting emotional regulation
- Calm, patient, and empathetic approach to learning and behaviour support
- Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- A current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Connex
