Do you have experience supporting young people who need guidance, structure, and positive role models?

We’re seeking a confident and resilient Pastoral Support Assistant to join a specialist primary school supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role would suit candidates from a variety of backgrounds including youth work, support work, sports coaching, care, mentoring, alternative provision, SEND support, or education. If you’re passionate about helping children reach their potential and thrive in a challenging but highly rewarding environment, we’d love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

You will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day. Building positive relationships is at the heart of this role, helping children feel safe, supported, and ready to engage with learning.

Every day brings new challenges and successes, making this a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys making a genuine difference in children’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs

  • Acting as a positive role model throughout the school day

  • Encouraging engagement, confidence, and self-regulation

  • Managing challenging behaviours using a calm and consistent approach

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff

  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom

Why Apply?

  • Long-term, stable opportunity

  • Friendly and highly supportive staff team

  • Excellent experience for those considering teaching, psychology, social work, youth justice, or pastoral careers

  • Rewarding role where you can see the impact of your support every day

  • Opportunity to work within a specialist SEMH setting

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Resilient, patient, and proactive approach

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Team Teach training is highly desirable but not essential

  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred

Location

The school is situated in a rural area of Knowle and has limited public transport access. Candidates with their own transport are strongly preferred, as bus routes only run as far as Dorridge.

This position is primarily offered on a full-time, long-term basis, although exceptional candidates seeking part-time work may be considered.

If you’re looking for a role where your patience, resilience, and ability to build relationships can have a lasting impact on young lives, apply today.

Connex Education Partnership is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and candidates to share this commitment. We adhere to Safer Recruitment practices in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, and other relevant legislation. All appointments are subject to rigorous pre-employment checks, including references and an enhanced DBS check.
