Connex - Birmingham

Home-Based SEND Tutor (KS2 – Autism & PMLD) – B10 9AP, Birmingham
Start Date: ASAP | Location: Birmingham | Role Type: Long-Term | Hours: Four sessions per week

Connex Education is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified teacher to provide personalised 1:1 tuition to a KS2 student with a diagnosis of Autism and an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The student is not attending primary school and requires home-based learning support. Assessments indicate the student is currently working at an Early Years/Reception level.

About the Role:

  • You will deliver engaging and structured learning sessions in the student’s home, four times per week.

  • Sessions will focus on developing core literacy and numeracy skills, including reading, writing, phonics, and the four fundamental mathematical operations.

  • Sessions will use a short-burst learning approach with regular breaks to support the student’s concentration and wellbeing.

  • The student communicates primarily using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), so experience with PECS is essential.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a young learner who requires a calm, patient, and adaptive teaching approach.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Proven experience working with pupils with Autism, PMLD, and complex learning needs.

  • A dynamic and creative teaching style, with the ability to tailor learning to the individual.

  • Confidence in identifying areas for development and adapting resources accordingly.

  • Experience with PECS and an understanding of alternative communication strategies.

  • A driving licence is preferred but not essential.

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).

What Connex Offers:

  • Competitive hourly pay, paid weekly via PAYE.

  • Full access to our SEND Toolkit – over 19 online training courses.

  • Opportunities to gain fully funded qualifications, including Level 5 TEFL.

  • A wellbeing and support programme tailored to the modern classroom.

  • Ongoing professional development and dedicated consultant support.

How to Apply:
If you’re a qualified teacher ready to support a unique learner in the B10 9AP area, please apply today.
