Job Title: Primary SEN Tutor (One-to-One Alternative Provision, Flexible Hours)
Location: Harborne, Birmingham
Salary: £20 – £25 per hour (depending on experience)
Job Type: Flexible (Part-time / Full-time) Mon-Fri

About Us

Connex Education Partnership is a dedicated and specialised provider of educational professionals across a range of education settings. Our mission is to provide meaningful, tailored, and supportive one-to-one tuition for children who are currently not attending school, delivered in a setting that best suits their individual needs.

The Role

Our Alternative Provision team is looking for a passionate and nurturing Primary SEN Tutor with a genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs. You will provide personalised, one-to-one tuition to primary-aged pupils in the Harborne area who are currently unable to access mainstream or specialist school placements.

The pupils you will support may have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role requires patience, creativity, and the ability to adapt learning to suit each child’s individual strengths, interests, and learning style.

This role ideally requires Monday to Friday availability, though 3 days a week is the minimum, with sessions typically lasting 2 hours per day. This is a minimum commitment, and additional hours are available for those seeking increased work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one tuition for primary-aged pupils with SEND.

  • Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs and outcomes.

  • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to support a range of learning difficulties and communication needs.

  • Support pupils in developing academic skills, confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Use engaging and creative approaches to encourage participation and progress.

  • Work closely with parents, carers, schools, local authorities, and other professionals.

  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback and session reports.

  • Create a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment that enables pupils to thrive.

Our Superstar Applicant Will Have

  • Experience working with primary-aged children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

  • Experience as a Teacher (QTS and non-QTS welcomed, however applicants must be able to deliver teaching at primary level).

  • A strong understanding of SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.

  • Experience using interventions and adaptive teaching strategies to support individual learners.

  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, Attention Autism, or other communication approaches is desirable but not essential.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children who require alternative provision.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families and professionals.

  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach.

  • Access to transport and willingness to travel within the local area is desirable.

Some Key Benefits of the Role

  • Flexible working: Manage your own diary, ideal for balancing family life, other commitments, or the school run.

  • Financial security: Guaranteed minimum hours available, including paid preparation time.

  • Freedom to teach your way: Sessions are fully personalised, allowing for creative and child-centred approaches.

  • Make a real difference: Support children at a crucial stage in their education and help them build confidence and re-engage with learning.

  • Competitive rates of pay: Opportunities for additional referrals and increased hours.

  • Professional collaboration: Work closely with local authorities, schools, and other professionals.

  • Ongoing support: Dedicated support from our Alternative Provision Team, with a direct point of contact for advice and guidance.
