SEN Private Tutor
Overview
As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Private Tutor, your role is to provide tailored, one-on-one educational support to children and young people with diverse learning needs. You will work closely with families, schools, and professionals to create inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences that foster academic progress, confidence, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Individualised Instruction: Deliver personalised lessons in core subjects (e.g., English, Maths, Science) adapted to the learner’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioural profile.
- Differentiated Learning: Use multi-sensory approaches and adaptive strategies to meet the needs of students with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language difficulties, and other SEN profiles.
- ️ Planning & Assessment: Develop learning plans with clear objectives, track progress, and adjust teaching methods based on ongoing assessment and feedback.
- Collaboration: Liaise with parents, carers, therapists, and school staff to ensure consistency and alignment with wider educational goals and support plans.
- Emotional Support: Foster a safe, nurturing environment that builds self-esteem, resilience, and motivation.
- Flexible Delivery: Provide tutoring in-home, online, or in community settings, adapting to the learner’s preferred environment and schedule.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- SEN training or certification (e.g., NASENCO, TEACCH, Makaton, PECS)
- Experience working with children with SEN in educational or therapeutic settings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, creativity, and empathy
- ✅ Enhanced DBS check (required)
Desirable Attributes
- Ability to integrate creative arts, play-based learning, or assistive technology
- Experience with neurodiverse learners from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Familiarity with EHCPs and educational frameworks such as the SEND Code of Practice
