Job Title: SEN Specialist Tutor (One-to-One, Flexible Hours)
Location: Harborne/West Birmingham area
Salary: £675 – £1125 Per Week (Depending on Experience)
Job Type: Flexible (Part-time/Full-time)

About Us:

Connex Education Partnership is a dedicated and specialised provider of educational support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including (but not limited to) those with autism, complex learning needs, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. To provide meaningful, tailored, and supportive one-to-one tuition to children currently not attending school is our mission and priority.

For this reason, we are looking for a passionate SEN Specialist Tutor to join our team working exclusively with children who hold Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The Role:

The exact role of a SEN Specialist Tutor will be varied depending on the specific needs of each student you tutor; however, you will predominantly work with children who are currently not attending school – providing personalised, one-to-one tuition mainly in their homes, but sometimes at local learning centres. These students with EHCPs require additional support due to autism, complex learning needs, or SEMH challenges.

This role will require the ability to adapt your teaching style and methods to the individual you are tutoring, enabling them to receive the right support in an environment which is comfortable for them. You will work with the goal in mind to ready the student for a school learning environment, as well as building their self-esteem potentially lost due to their challenges they have faced.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one tutoring for children with a range of SEN, including autism, SEMH, and other complex learning needs.
  • Create and deliver personalised lessons based on each child’s EHCP, ensuring their individual needs and learning styles are met.
  • Help children engage with the curriculum, build essential skills, and make progress academically and personally.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to track the child’s development and provide updates.
  • Collaborate with schools, local authorities, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s progress.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and motivating learning environment that helps children gain confidence in their abilities.

Some Key Benefits of the Role:

  • Flexible working: You’ll have the freedom to manage your own diary, which works particularly well for those balancing family life, other work commitments, or the school run.
  • Financial Security: On top of this, you will have the security of 10 hours pay minimum per week for each child you tutor – this includes 2 hours paid prep time.
  • Freedom to teach your way: Lessons are fully tailored to each child’s unique needs and EHCP, so you can teach in a way that works best for them and you.
  • Make a real difference: This role gives you the chance to work with children at a critical time in their education, helping them re-engage with learning and support their journey to academic and emotional stability.
  • Good rates of pay: Competitive pay rates, with the potential for additional referrals to increase your income.
  • Professional collaboration: You’ll work closely with schools, local authorities, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the child, with regular feedback and support.
  • Ongoing support: Our specialist SEN Home Tuition Team is here for you. You’ll have a direct point of contact by phone or email for any advice or support you need.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, particularly autism, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
  • Experience with PECS and/or Makaton is highly desirable
  • Relevant teaching qualifications (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) preferred, but not essential if you have relevant experience in SEN support.
  • Genuine passion for helping children overcome learning barriers and achieve their full potential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with parents, schools, and other professionals.
  • A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach to teaching.
  • Ability to travel within the specified area (driving is preferred but not required)

How to Apply:
If you’re passionate about working with children with SEN and are excited about the opportunity to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your CV by pressing apply & you will hear from us soon!
