About the role

Connex Education is recruiting for a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant position at a pupil referral unit in the Teesside area. The role involves supporting Key Stage 3 and 4 students with special educational needs and disabilities who are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Candidates must be based in Teesside or surrounding areas and will work with vulnerable young people, providing crucial support to prevent educational exclusion during critical periods of their schooling. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ educational journeys.

Assignment Details:

 

Beginning September 2025, this Monday-Friday position involves helping students with Education, Health and Care Plans reach their academic objectives while maintaining their place in mainstream education. We’re seeking candidates with a background in supporting young people across diverse special educational needs who show determination, dedication, and genuine commitment to positively impacting children’s futures. The role provides a chance to create significant change for at-risk learners at pivotal moments in their educational journey within a dedicated specialist setting.

As a successful SEND Teaching Assistant with Connex Education Partnership, you will possess:

  • Hold a relevant Qualification in SEND or Teaching Assistant
  • Have experience working with individuals with SEN
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Confident in your behaviour management skills
  • Calm, resilient and able to communicate well with young people
  • Hold a current DBS on the update service or willing to apply for a new one through Connex
  • Team Teach trained- preferred
  • Be able to show proof of work in the UK
