Are you passionate about providing specialist support and feel confident working with children who have specialist education and emotional needs?

Connex Education are working with a fabulous school in Leeds who are on the looking for a full time SEMH Learning Support Assistant, experienced in working with children with many SEN needs such as: Autism, behavioural issues, communication and SEMH.

The role involves working with students within the specialist SEN provision in school. You must be proactive and flexible, have a flare for creativity and enjoy working with and building rapport with students who may be used to different educational dynamics.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8.15am – 3.15pm, starting 20th February and will continue on a long term basis until the end of the academic year.

The role will include (but not limited to)

  • a comprehensive timetable of support across a number of pupils with SEMH and potential autism/communication and interaction needs (this role would not be limited to 1:1 support for a specific pupil)
  • planning programmes of support and intervention for themselves and other inclusion support staff to deliver as part of provision for pupils
  • responding to behaviour/inclusion needs as these arise in school
  • supporting a nurture provision over lunchtimes and break times
  • working in partnership with the SENCo/Senior Inclusion worker to make strategic plans that cater for needs based on presenting needs in school

Candidates would ideally have:

  • a strong work ethic, able to manage challenge and work in a fast paced environment 
  • experience in and a desire to support challenging SEMH behaviour and autism/communication needs 
  • experience of working in a challenging inner-city school environment
  • have experience/training in delivering behaviour/SEMH/Emotional literacy support
  • potentially autism training
