Connex Education Partnership is looking for experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work across specialist schools and SEND settings in Weston-Super-Mare and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for qualified or experienced HLTAs who are looking for flexible supply work, regular long-term placements or a route into a permanent position.
You’ll have the opportunity to work across a range of specialist settings, supporting pupils with additional and complex needs while taking on greater responsibility within the classroom.
The Role
As a SEND HLTA, you’ll work closely with teachers and specialist staff, taking responsibility for supporting learning, delivering activities and helping pupils make progress within an individualised curriculum.
Depending on the setting, you may support pupils with:
ASC / Autism | SEMH | SLD / PMLD | Complex Needs | Communication Needs | Sensory Needs | Physical & Medical Needs
Your responsibilities could include:
- Leading learning activities for individuals and small groups
- Delivering planned lessons or learning sessions in the teacher’s absence
- Supporting pupils to access personalised learning programmes
- Working with pupils on communication, independence and life skills
- Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Implementing individual education and support plans
- Supporting sensory, therapeutic and practical activities
- Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist professionals
- Monitoring pupil engagement and progress
- Providing feedback to teachers and wider staff teams
- Supporting classroom organisation and day-to-day routines
- Taking responsibility for learning activities when required
- Supporting other Teaching Assistants and contributing to a positive team environment

A Level 4 HLTA qualification or equivalent experience is welcomed, alongside strong classroom and SEND experience.
We are also happy to consider experienced Teaching Assistants who are already undertaking HLTA-level responsibilities and are looking for their next step.
