The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide tailored support that enables pupils with additional needs to engage with learning, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.

Depending on the assignment, you will:

• Support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs
• Work closely with teachers and wider school staff to deliver engaging learning experiences
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions
• Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual plans and school policies
• Support pupils during classroom learning, interventions and enrichment activities
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues

• Experienced SEND Teaching Assistants
• Teaching Assistants with experience supporting pupils with additional needs
• Candidates with backgrounds in care, residential support, youth work or similar child-centred settings
• Individuals with experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, PMLD or SEMH needs
• Passionate professionals looking to build a long-term career within SEND education

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs is highly desirable
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families
• A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
• The Right to Work in the UK

Due to the nature of these roles, priority will be given to candidates with previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional needs within education, care, residential support, youth work or similar settings. Applicants must also have the Right to Work in the UK and be able to satisfy all safer recruitment checks.
