The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes in school.
Depending on the setting, your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Delivering one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to individual learning needs
• Working collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff to support learning across the classroom
• Promoting pupils’ independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
• Following behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans
• Encouraging participation in lessons, interventions and enrichment activities
• Developing positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues

Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs is highly desirable
• A calm, patient and compassionate approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families
• A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
• The Right to Work in the UK

Due to the nature of these roles, preference will be given to candidates with previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional needs within education, care, residential support, youth work or similar settings. Applicants must also have the Right to Work in the UK and successfully complete all safer recruitment checks.
