Are you looking for a genuinely meaningful Teaching Assistant role within specialist education?

We are recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a well-established specialist school in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, supporting pupils aged 2–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex communication needs and associated physical needs.

This is a structured, supportive setting with strong leadership and a calm, purposeful learning environment.

About the Setting

This specialist provision is known locally for:

• Small class sizes with high adult-to-pupil ratios
• Clear daily routines and structured learning pathways
• Sensory-rich classrooms and specialist learning spaces
• Strong collaboration between teachers, support staff and therapists
• A respectful, aspirational culture where every pupil’s progress matters

The school follows personalised curriculum pathways focused on engagement, communication, independence and life skills.

This is not a chaotic environment — it is organised, structured and well supported.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SLD and PMLD
• Support communication development and engagement
• Assist with sensory-based learning activities
• Implement structured routines and personalised learning plans
• Support personal care professionally and respectfully
• Work closely with teaching staff to deliver EHCP targets
• Maintain clear safeguarding and professional boundaries

This is a hands-on, active role where patience, consistency and emotional steadiness are essential.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

• Experience working with children or young people (SEN desirable)
• Confidence supporting complex needs
• A calm and patient approach
• Strong teamwork skills
• Reliability and professionalism
• Clear communication skills

Experience in PMLD, SLD, sensory approaches, care settings, or specialist SEN schools is highly desirable — but we will support the right candidate with training.

✔ £95 per day (paid weekly)
