Tell us a bit about yourself?
“After teaching in mainstream schools for over 20 years, I felt ready for a change, something that would allow me to continue doing what I love while offering more flexibility around family life. I set up my own tuition business and now also freelance at Yorkshire Create Studio, as well as running Zumba classes for children. I have a six-year-old daughter, so having that balance is really important to me.”
Why does tutoring with Connex suit you?
Tutoring with Connex suits me perfectly because I still get to do what I love, but on a more flexible basis. It allows me to focus on individual pupils and tailor support in a way that isn’t always possible in a full classroom setting.
What are the best parts of your job as a tutor?
Honestly, it’s the little moments. When a child suddenly reads a word they’ve been stuck on, or when they realise “I can do this!”, that’s the best feeling. I also love seeing their confidence grow over time. Some children start off quite unsure, and watching them become more willing to try, speak up, and believe in themselves is really special.
Tell me a little about the young people you are currently tutoring… how are you making a positive impact on them?
The young people I work with often need a high level of patience and understanding. I really value taking the time to build strong, trusting relationships with each child, as this is the foundation for everything else. By creating a calm, supportive environment, I help them feel safe to have a go, which in turn builds both their skills and their confidence.
What does being awarded the Professional Tutor Quality Mark from Connex Tutors mean to you?
It means a great deal to me. I put a lot of care and thought into my work, so to have that recognised feels really special. It’s also reassuring for the families I support, knowing they are receiving high-quality provision.
