About the School

Connex Education is working with a school in Wilmslow who are looking for a number of SEND Support Assistants to join their team on a full time basis.

This SEND school are looking for a patient, resilient, and genuinely caring Teaching Assistant to join their team supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). You’ll work closely with class teachers, therapists, and families to help children access the curriculum, build communication skills, and grow in confidence and independence.

About the Role

 Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Support individual pupils and small groups, both in class and on a 1:1 basis
  • Help to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and therapy programmes (e.g. speech and language, occupational therapy)
  • Use and support alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, AAC devices)
  • Assist with personal care and physical needs where required, with dignity and sensitivity
  • Support pupils with sensory, behavioural, and emotional regulation needs
  • Adapt resources and activities to individual learning levels
  • Record and report on pupil progress
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues

Assignment details

The school are looking for Support Assistants available to work from 8.45 – 3.45pm from Monday – Friday. It is essential all applicants are able to work 5 days per week and interested in accepting permanent contacts.

Person Specification

  • Experience of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs either in a school or similar setting.
  • If no experience in a school, being a support worker or carer would be beneificial 
  • Be willing to provide all aspects of personal care.
  • Have confidence working with students who display challenging behaviours.
  • Be confident working in accordance with indivualised learning plans.
  • Have a full enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new one.
