Behaviour Support Assistant

About the Role
Are you passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop positive behaviours? Connex Education is looking for caring and committed Behaviour Support professionals to join primary schools across Portishead.
With a range of flexible opportunities available, you can choose from day-to-day supply work, longer-term placements, or roles that fit around your existing commitments. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable experience within primary education.
You’ll work alongside teachers and wider school teams to provide consistent, encouraging support to pupils who may need additional help with their behaviour, emotions, or engagement in learning. Your patience, understanding, and positive approach will help pupils feel confident and supported in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualised support to pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school staff to promote positive behaviour.
- Offer one-to-one and small group support where needed.
- Establish strong, positive relationships with pupils and provide consistent encouragement.
- Help pupils develop practical strategies to manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Encourage pupils to participate positively in classroom activities and learning.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all pupils.
- Adapt your approach to meet the needs of different pupils and school environments.

Job Requirements
- Experience working with children who have behavioural or additional support needs is desirable.
- Previous experience in a primary school or educational setting is beneficial.
- A genuine passion for helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence in building positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and support staff.
- A calm, patient, reliable, and flexible approach.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion, and diversity.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
