Liverpool Echo School Awards
On Tuesday we attended the Liverpool Echo School Awards to salute the Mersey schools stars of 2016!
Paula Miller and Jason Patton headed to Liverpool University, where young children were awarded a number of accolades, involving pupils and teachers who shone above the rest.
Below, we have rounded up the awards and their explanations, and the winners for 2016…
Liverpool Hope University Inspirational Teacher of the Year
Does your teacher inspire you? Are your children encouraged to achieve by an extra special teacher? Our teachers play a vital role in shaping the futures of our children. Here, the Liverpool Echo searched for a teacher who had shown constant dedication, inspiring young people every day.
And the winner is…Daniel Watkins – Cowley International College
Class of the Year
This award was for an outstanding class and its teacher. They will have worked together to stand out in every aspect of school life, whether it be through fundraising, campaigning, excellence or simply helping to make their school a better place.
And the winner is…Victoria Oliver – Bishop /David Sheppard CE Primary School
School Support Staff of the Year
This award was for any member of non-teaching staff who played a vital role in the running of the school and the happiness and security of the children. It may have been a teaching assistant, administrative staff member, caretaker or any other member of support staff who made difference.
And the winner is…Monica Tomlinson – Liverpool Life Sciences UTC
Healthy Living Award
This award went to a class or whole school that made it a priority to lead a healthy lifestyle.
For example, this could be by exercising more, drinking more water, eating healthy foods or growing vegetables to use in the kitchen.
And the winner is…St. Michaels High School
Headteacher of the Year
This gong is for an outstanding school leader whose guidance and leadership has helped create a dynamic learning environment where the pupils are happy and encouraged to reach their full potential.
And the winner is…Karen Hutchings, New Park Primary School
Team Achievement Award
This award went to a successful team or activity that engages students.
This may have been a successful sports team, music group or fundraisers who achieved success.
And the winner is…Booker Avenue Junior School’s Cross Country Team
Communication Award
This was open to all schools that had an excellent communication strategy, whether in print (school newspapers, newsletters, posters etc) or online (websites or apps) and social media. Communications should involve the whole school community.
And the winner is…Archbishop Blanch Secondary School
Redrow Active Community Award
This award was for a class, year group or whole school that played an active role in its community. It may be getting directly involved in your community or raising money for charity.
And the winner is…Calderstones School – Student Leadership Team
Student Teacher of the Year
This award was open to all student teachers on placement in Merseyside as part of school-led or university-led teacher training courses. It recognised an excellent teacher of the future.
And the winner is…Georgia Abbott
Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority Primary School of the Year –
This was awarded to the primary school that had an outstanding academic year, including embracing improvements in attendance levels, parent engagement or exam results. Schools applying may have made, developed or built upon partnerships in the local community, achieved new credentials or competition success.
And the winner is…Northway Primary and Nursery School
Secondary School of the Year
This award was given to the secondary school that had an outstanding academic year. Like the primary school award, this school may have embraced improvements in attendance levels, parent engagement or exam results etc.
And the winner is…Formby High School
