BSL Interpreter (A-Level Support)
Location: Birmingham (College setting – details upon application)
Pay Rate: £35 – £39 per hour
Hours: Part-time (21 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–1:00pm)
Connex Education is seeking a highly skilled and confident BSL Interpreter to support two A-Level students within a college setting in Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a supportive and welcoming environment, helping learners access advanced academic content.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for interpreting A-Level lessons for two students studying subjects including Physics, Computer Science, and Maths. Due to the complexity of the curriculum, a strong command of British Sign Language (BSL) and the ability to accurately convey technical and subject-specific terminology is essential.
You will work collaboratively alongside another BSL-trained professional as part of a friendly and experienced team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality BSL interpretation for A-Level lessons
- Accurately interpret complex subject terminology across multiple disciplines
- Support students in fully accessing lesson content
- Work closely with teaching staff and another BSL specialist
- Occasionally attend college open days (travel expenses covered)
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in British Sign Language (essential)
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally at secondary or post-16 level
- Confidence in interpreting technical language (e.g. Physics, Maths, Computer Science)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Reliable and committed to the set part-time schedule
