About the role

To make a positive contribution to educational outcomes for children who have or have had a social worker or are in kindship care.

This role seeks to minimise and reduce the outcome gap by:

  • Providing high quality information, advice, guidance, support and challenge to key stake holders who have or have had a social worker, to ensure leadership, culture and curriculum design promotes high quality educational experiences and outcomes.
  • Ensuring high quality targeted support approach is adopted which specifically impacts on provision for children who have or have had a social worker from 0-18 years.
  • Working in partnership with the networks of professionals around children and schools including colleagues within the Education and Social Care Directorates, and carers and partners beyond the Local Authority 
  • Contributing to the Council’s effective delivery of its statutory and associated obligations in relation to care experienced children.

Assignment Details

The assignment will be long term, on-going 5 days per week, including working through the school holidays.

Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with the relevant key partners (including those within and beyond the LA),
  • Manage a caseload of looked after children alongside the young person’s allocated social worker.
  • Drive the development of high-quality personal education plans (PEPs) that address each Child Looked After (CLA) specific learning requirements, emotional needs, and potential barriers to learning.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements, including the completion of Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and the allocation of the Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) budget, are met, are of a high quality and comply with service expectations.

Person Specification

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent substantial experience in supporting the delivery of education to children with a social worker Previous experience with SEN children in a primary, secondary or send school
  • DBS On the update service, or willingness to obtain one through Connex Education
  • Ability to manage project tasks within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience in the areas of responsibility of the post, including:
    • Providing advice to internal and external stakeholders
    • Assisting and supporting the delivery of major projects
    • Leading on projects and initiatives
    • Providing appropriate project financial management
    • Ensuring accurate record keeping
    • Providing high level challenge to senior stake holders
  • Experience of successful partnership working and joint working with statutory and non-statutory organisations.
  • Ability to write and present reports.
  • Experience of handling and interpreting complex information
  • Past 2 years’ worth of referencing
