Our Alternative Provision service supports learners in rebuilding confidence, re-engaging with education, and achieving positive outcomes through tailored support.

The Role

We are looking for a compassionate and adaptable Secondary SEN Tutor to deliver one-to-one tuition to students in the Harborne area.

You will work with secondary-aged learners who may have a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties. Sessions are tailored to each student’s individual needs, helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

Availability across Monday to Friday is preferred, with a minimum commitment of three days per week. Sessions are typically around two hours per day, with additional hours available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one tuition to secondary-aged students.

  • Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and outcomes.

  • Support learners with a range of SEND and communication needs.

  • Build confidence, independence, and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Monitor progress and complete session feedback.

  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, local authorities, and other professionals.

  • Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

About You

We welcome applications from qualified and unqualified teachers, tutors, and experienced education professionals who can teach at secondary level.

You should have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND.

  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach.

  • The ability to deliver personalised learning and adapt teaching strategies effectively.

Experience with communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, or Attention Autism is desirable but not essential.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay rates.

  • Guaranteed minimum hours and paid preparation time.

  • The freedom to deliver creative, personalised learning.

  • Ongoing support from our dedicated Alternative Provision team.
