About the role

Connex Education is working with a large Mainstream Primary School in Waltham Forest who are recruiting for a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils with Autism (ASD) and other SEND needs within the classroom.

The school is committed to supporting all learners, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), through tailored provisions such as specialized support staff, sensory-friendly spaces, and individualized learning plans. With a strong emphasis on inclusion, they foster a nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Assignment Details

This role will commence ASAP until at least the end of the school year. Hours are 8am – 4pm, with 1 hour for lunch. Monday – Friday (Term time only).

Person Specification

  • Experience working with children, preferably with those who have special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • An understanding of strategies to support children with SEND, such as behavior management techniques, sensory regulation, and communication aids (e.g., Makaton or PECS).
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with children who may have challenging behavior or additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and a dedication to helping them achieve their full potential.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and training related to SEND.
  • Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent OR be willing to complete our job ready CPD training.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience supporting a child 1:1, particularly in literacy, numeracy, or social skills development.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and how to implement them effectively.
